The Forces of Memory and Its Enemy Hope

April 6, 2017

I’m remembering

With tears

Your sad stories, now.

How they floated

Like embers

Of cherished childhood-

And that… that pain! I felt

Flowing through your past

Into my wild,

Open heart

Wound fast

To it…

Now, of both our pasts,

A tender part.

Turning sharp

Pain upon pain

Blame against Shame

Closing up

Our wounded hearts

To love

N’one? N’more?

Wisemen may cry

Peace! Peace!

It all feels so much like war.

“For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and to provide for it. I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past.” -P.H.

“He believed God (who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did) and contrary to hope, in hope he believed.”

“Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”

-An Angel of the LORD
