A Gloaming Prayer…

January 7, 2014

God,
Like a sunset
You catch today’s wisps of clouds in my head
With Your light
They burst into blazing flames,
Blooming into pastel brilliance
Just
Before the night,

And as I watch them fade
Away-
This wonderful, momentary
Work
Your hands have made-

I wonder!
At what You have done
And
What You will do,
Again.

And then,
Like the stars-
Those fountains of light-
Springing up
In the East’s early night,

You begin
To fill my night’s-head
With new thoughts
Different,
Steady,
Sure.

Truths, Your truths,
Which, from the dawn of time,
Have led grief-laden men
To endure.
